Learning beyond the classroom

OneSchool Global is a vital part of the Maryborough community providing exceptional education to children across the local area. Situated on the northern outskirts of town surrounded by cane fields and bushland, the location and spaciousness make for a productive learning environment. With an innovative approach to learning, delivered in technology-empowered physical and digital learning environments, OneSchool Global Maryborough prepares students to be life-ready.

Broadening this innovative approach to education, OneSchool Global Maryborough wanted to expand learning beyond the classroom and into play. Once considered a break from ‘real learning’, the school playground is now understood as an education essential. Great playgrounds and outdoor learning spaces – used appropriately – have a proven impact on children’s physical, social and mental development. Understanding that physical activity and outdoor learning can boost engagement, concentration and even academic results, we developed a unique play space that would deliver these student outcomes.

Collaboration

Focusing on the cognitive, physical, emotional and social benefits of play, we consulted with OneSchool Global– Maryborough’s campus principal to design a playground that included a  fitness zone utilising a large area in their school. Working in collaboration with the school community, the result is an exemplary play area offering opportunities for problem solving, interaction and endless physical fun.

Meeting the budget, we realised the college’s vision for a space that would provide physical and cognitive benefits for students – a zone that challenges, invigorates, engages and inspires. Incorporating the school colours, our unique design fosters both enhanced learning through play and encourages pride in the school community.

Solution

The custom Fitness Kombination 715 in metal system tests students skills, pushing limits to challenge and develop their mental and physical abilities. The young, the fit or just the determined can have fun while racing over, under and past the challenges and obstacles that make up the course. Moves include everything from running, climbing a 3-metre-high Rock-Climbing Wall, swinging, vaulting, jumping, and balancing . The equipment supports overall fitness, strength, balance and flexibility; helps relieve stress and tension, and improves self-esteem.

The design and layout of the zone allows for students to engage with the equipment at any point, creating unique play experiences every time. Engaging both physical ability and critical thinking skills to overcome the obstacles, students come away feeling invigorated, challenged and ready for learning. The Fitness Kombination 715 brightens students school days through play, boosting student engagement, development and education outcomes.
