Playground puts fun on the map
The transformation of Balclutha’s adjoining Centennial and Naish Parks into a premier community recreational space is well underway, with the much-anticipated destination playground being embraced and enjoyed by all ages.
The vibrant play and exercise space, complementing the new dog park, bike track and surrounding parkland, is a feat of passion for a community wanting an outdoor space all can enjoy.
Collaboration
What a pleasure to work alongside Clutha District Council, designers Creo and the Naish & Centennial Redevelopment Committee to bring to life their dream destination playground. It’s the latest stage in a redevelopment masterplan more than three years in the making, designed to tell the story of Balclutha, its local history, landmarks and culture. A second stage will incorporate more challenging play elements for older children and adults, as well as a fitness circuit.
Solution
Fun, fitness, and imagination abound in this vibrant play space featuring a colourful range of customised and Playground Centre manufactured, as well as imported equipment.
There are two impressive focal points - the 6m Grand Vista with its climbing chimney, four ladders and two horizontal nets is an irresistible lure for climbers of all ages and abilities, alongside the triple-decker Octagonal Lighthouse Tower with twin tube slides and wave slide.
No playground is complete without swings and the custom bank of nine – featuring the Flying Saucer Triple Frame and - ensures everyone in the family has the chance to fly. Meanwhile, drivers of all ages will rule the roads in the custom Milk Tanker 173 - Truck & Trailer Toddler Play .
There’s also plenty of opportunity to work on strength, co-ordination and balance with the inclusion of the Stepping Logs Fitness Station, Balance Beam Fitness Station, Tightrope Walk/Chip-up Cube Fitness Station, the Turbo Challenge Fitness Station, Oval Ladder Platform and Whisper Glide Fitness Station.
