A focus on safe, all ages fun was front and centre in this playground renewal project for Christchurch City Council.
As the playground in Harrington Park in the Christchurch suburb of Riccarton neared the end of its life span, the Council embarked on a project to design a contemporary play space in consultation with the local community.
The result is a landscaped play space that will cater to the play needs of Riccarton families for many years to come because it’s filled with benefits-rich play equipment that’s made in New Zealand and built to last from high quality, durable materials. And feedback from the community? Their new and improved playground is awesome!
Fun Solution
With pretty much everything ripe for replacement in the well-used community play space in Harrington Park, the Council and Playground Centre worked with local residents to come up with a concept for a bigger, brighter new play space.
With a number of growing families in the area, this included the need to ensure the play equipment selected for the re-vamped Harrington Park was suitable for a wide range of ages, including older children and teens.
The existing modular play structure, flying fox and swing set were all replaced with items from Playground Centre’s up-to-the-minute range to provide fresh attraction and increased play value.
Our TR343 Hex Activity Tower was the perfect choice to provide a major boost to the amount of play options on offer in the highly used park. Constructed with sturdy timber beams, the TR343 modular play system packs a large range of activities into a compact footprint. It includes a tiered, hexagonal tower and tube slide as well as a combination of climbing, balance, strength and coordination-building apparatus designed to entice primary school-aged children through to young adults.
A longer, 30-metre Flying Fox was also installed along with a new 6-Bay Urban Swing fitted with a variety of swing seats suitable for different ages, including an inclusive basket swing. In addition, we added a Single Seesaw – Metal and two Ultra Tuff Springy Rockers to the mix.
