Play Priorities

One of Christchurch’s largest new residential estates, Prestons is being transformed into an urban village which will be home to around 8,000 people.

Integral to the staged development of the estate has been the incorporation of large sections of parkland to preserve and enhance the natural environment and support the Prestons community to enjoy an active, outdoor lifestyle.

Playground Centre teamed up with Rough & Milne Landscape Architects to design and install play and recreation facilities that seamlessly blend with the estate’s contemporary design aesthetic and offer residents of all ages a myriad of fun and fitness options.

Fun Solution

Inspiring children and adults alike to make the most of their time spent outside was central to the design of the Prestons Park playspace.

With plenty of room to move, we included a combination of state-of-the-art play equipment and outdoor gym equipment specially crafted for the location from sustainably-sourced New Zealand timber.

The neighbourhood kids can play from daylight to dark in the action-packed adventure playground which features our Eagles Lair climbing structure, Wobbly Wood Ema Climbing Tree and a host of other equipment. The Eagles Lair offers a bird’s eye view of the park’s lake and multiple levels and challenges to suit a cross-section of ages and abilities. This is a theme that’s carried throughout the playspace, with the inclusion of accessible equipment like the Inclusive Carousel, Emperor Chimes and innovative Net See Saw.

Adding to the free-range fun are the park’s Fitness Stations including Gym Rings, Parallel Bars and Straddle Jump, and a custom-made Single Traveller Flying Fox.
