Play Priorities

Fun, colourful play, with a nod to local horticultural history, became the focus for Auckland Council after consulting with the local community about creating a new junior playground in the growing suburb of Kumeū-Huapai, in the capital’s north-west.

Reflecting the area’s renown for wineries, orchards and rolling green farmland, the ‘fruit bowl’ themed design was most popular with local residents. Designed by Urban Solutions Ltd it features bright colours and a planting palette which included fruit trees and immersive play spaces.

Children, families and walkers are encouraged to take a journey through a range of intensely colourful spaces across the landscaped space, designed to capture imaginations, and encourage families to connect while remaining practical to pedestrians.

Fun Solution

Recently completed for Auckland Council, this fruit bowl-themed design was a winner with this growing community surrounded by wineries, orchards and farmland.

Catering mainly to primary school-aged children, the play space features mushroom stepping logs for navigating garden beds, a Woobly Wood Bee Rocker to go flying on, and pink, mint and lime green pergolas to entice exploration further into the park.

The Magic Flyer Midi with its pointed top and bottom has plenty of room for climbing, games and flying around the centre pole, for up to 12 children at a time.

As well as the Woobly Wood 2-Bay Swing Frame and the Double Embankment Slide with scrambling access, there is an innovative Trampoline Pi to bounce on.
